Hello! —I’m Birgit Jung-Schmitt, a certified ABM NeuroMovement® Practitioner based in Ojai, CA.
Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® — What is it and how does it work?
The Anat Baniel Method®, also known as NeuroMovement®, is a holistic, movement-based approach that engages the brain’s remarkable capacity to change and learn. In my sessions, I use gentle touch, movement, and guided attention to create the conditions for this learning to unfold. Rather than “exercising” or correcting movement, we explore subtle variations that awaken awareness and spark the brain to form new, more efficient patterns for action and thought.
This process becomes a form of two-way, felt communication between practitioner and client—between the person and their own brain. From this interaction, new possibilities emerge: greater comfort, coordination, balance, and clarity in movement and in life. The work supports children and adults alike, addressing diverse developmental, neurological, and functional challenges, as well as helping high-performing individuals refine their abilities.
If you’re seeking a fresh, empowering way to support your child’s development or to enhance your own well-being, you’re in the right place.
“We see a huge progress in our daughter, not only physically with her balance but in the way she handles herself. She is much more attentive and aware and precise with her actions. ”
Who I Work With
Children & Families
I work with families navigating developmental challenges, autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, or neurodiverse learning needs. Parents often notice improvements in mobility, self-regulation, connection, communication, sleep, and overall well-being—along with more smiles and ease in daily life.
Offerings:
Private lessons for children — Guiding their attention through gentle, listening touch.
Parent–child sessions — Creating better conditions for learning with the Nine Essentials, in person or online.
Online classes for parents — Exploring developmental movement while caring for yourself at the same time.
Adults & Seniors
I work with adults seeking recovery, relief, or refinement—whether after stroke or injury, to reduce pain and improve mobility and balance, or to enhance performance, vitality, and mental clarity.
Offerings:
One-on-one lessons — In person or online, guided through gentle touch or verbal instruction to discover greater ease and freedom.
Intensives — A focused series of lessons, fully in person or combined with online sessions.
Online group classes — Building a foundation for well-being and discovering new possibilities.
Chair lessons for seniors — In person or on Zoom, supporting balance and confidence in walking.
What I Offer
NeuroMovement Lessons
Because this work is about learning, we call the sessions lessons. Each lesson lasts about 45 minutes and focuses on creating the conditions for the brain to discover new patterns of movement and organization.
To experience the full benefit, I recommend starting with a series of 3–4 sessions—enough to sense how this approach fits you or your child.
Intensives in Two Locations
Intensives are at the heart of my work, as they bring about deeper, more lasting change than weekly sessions. Each intensive includes 8–10 in-person lessons within one week.
Ojai Intensives — Flexible scheduling of 4–10 lessons per intensive, at my home studio or yours.
Los Angeles Intensives — Held every 2–3 months, over five consecutive days (10 lessons) at the Hilton Garden Inn in Marina del Rey (near LAX). Space is limited—early planning is recommended.
Classes & Coaching for Parents
Online classes — Private or small-group explorations of developmental movement and self-care.
Parent coaching — In person or online, learning how to use the Nine Essentials in daily life to support your child’s growth and your own well-being.
